The victim, a seventeen (17) year old male from Newark, alleges that these two teenagers punched him in the face and then stole his cellphone before fleeing the scene. They will remain in custody until they make their initial appearance in the Family Division of the Essex County Superior Courthouse, which is located also located in Newark. They have formally been charged with robbery in the second degree and theft in the third degree. If they do not get waived up to the adult criminal justice system, the juveniles face up to five years in Jamesburg if convicted of both counts. If they were to get waived up and treated as an adult, they could face up to fifteen (15) years in a New Jersey State Prison.
